In response to mounting consumer concern about rBGH, Elanco (Eli Lilly’s veterinary medicine subsidiary) released a “independent safety assessment”.
The reality? Elanco’s report contains “numerous mistakes, misrepresentations of fact, and omissions” that undermine its credibility. Read a BCA-endorsed public health response here. In addition, many of the organizations that were said to endorse the safety of rBGH (in the Elanco report) did nothing of the sort.
David Clemmons of the University of North Carolina, one of the authors of the Elanco report, has admitted that claims that the American Medical Association, the American Cancer Society and American Association of Pediatrics officially endorse rBGH were “technically untrue”.
