Mai, so well said. I will share and continue to spread the word about safe products minus the chemicals. I have hated pinkwashing since it started it is only marketing for corporate America

My sister, who passed away due to metastatic breast cancer at 52, hated Breast Cancer Awareness in October!! After reading this, and other information about pinkwashing, I think it would be a great idea to skip the pink in October.

I will forward this to EVERYONE I know. I am also sick of all this meaningless pink. What good does it do? Does it prevent even ONE woman from getting breast cancer? Just because we are all so "aware" of it now? How does it do that? Enough is enough. To protect ourselves and our families, we can all begin by reading labels very carefully, and not buy stuff that contains harmful ingredients, whether it's foods or other products. But we still have to breathe the air and drink the water.

here's what did it for me and made me begin to look for info on pinkwashing: i was in the store, i don't get out much; i saw LADLE or something, with a pink ribbon printed on it with some indication that proceeds would go to breast cancer research etc - that was it! i officially od'd on pink ribbons. this year i notice that the aims are more about 'raising bla million dollars' - not 'research', not '2015', not what areas of research - just awareness and dollars - if we're racing so much towards a cure, how about a time frame, not to mention actual research organizations and specific aims. plus my friend who had breast cancer and survived chemo etc - she detected her cancer by self-examination, not mammogram.
we could go ahead with awareness month - it will eventually wane anyway - we really need to hold the campaign to account and request specific info about the designation of funds raised.

I hope I live to see the day when October means Halloween and harvest and leaves falling and NHL and NBA again. Just that. Only that. I hope I live to see the day when people discuss pink and pinkwashing as a fad that passed. I hope I live to see the day when people know the word "prevention" above all else.
